7 Great Dishes Made With Greek Deli Products

Today we are going to have a look at some fantastic meals you can create with Greek deli products.

Horiatiki, or the classic Greek salad is a perfect blend of deli and fresh products, chopped tomatoes, cucumber and red onions with cubed feta cheese, Kalamata olives and dressed with extra virgin olive oil and a pinch of oregano. For a real gourmet touch, add a few slices of bottarga to the mix.  Another simple but impressive salad is halved cherry tomatoes and diced feta dressed with olive oil and chopped mint leaves.

Roasted tomato and olive oil soup is a great start to a dinner.  Roast the tomatoes with a little oil, then peel and blend them.  Fry some diced onion, garlic and a pinch of thyme and chilli in olive oil then add to the pureed tomato.  Add a generous dash of olive oil and water and blend.  Serve the soup with crumbled feta cheese on top.

Bottarga is a classy and stylish alternative for caviar or smoked salmon, try thinly sliced or ready grated bottarga stirred in to scrambled eggs, or for a simple but delicious sauce for pasta, add grated smoked bottarga to extra virgin olive oil and add to freshly cooked spaghetti.

Tagliatelle with squid and bottarga would grace any restaurant’s menu.  Shred two courgettes and boil them, fry some chopped tomato, garlic, the sliced and scored squid and a pinch of chilli and parsley in olive oil, drain and add the courgette, combine with freshly cooked tagliatelle and scatter the grated bottarga on top.

Lamb cutlets with feta is a simple but impressive main course.  Pan fry the cutlets in a little extra virgin olive oil.  In a bowl beat together a splash of olive oil with half a block of crumbled feta, a pinch each of oregano and thyme and the juice of a lemon.  When your lamb is cooked, simply pour the oil and feta dressing over, and serve.

Mashed potatoes made with olive oil instead of butter is a good side dish for the lamb  cutlets. A warm potato salad flavoured with oregano and dill works well too.

For an unusual but heavenly dessert, Feta cheese with sesame and honey is a real delight. The salty tang of the feta plays off the sweetness of the honey for a gourmet sweet and sour effect, a really delicious and captivating end to your meal.
